Zalul is concerned that the Israeli government disregards the close connection between the environment and public’s health, well-being, and security, which will be jeopardized due to lack of environmental planning within the rapid development of contaminating industries offshore and inland and of intense construction and urban densification. In the coming decade Israel is expected to double its population. In a country the size of New Jersey, 16 million residents will all find themselves living nearby various types of environmental hazards. Therefore, it is essential that the Ministry of Environmental Protection be as effective as possible, with authorities and deterrence in the face of polluters, who prefer other considerations over the public welfare and the environment. Zalul aims to strengthen the Ministry of Environment, add standards, and increase its ability to attract first-class professionals, authorities, and budgets.
